Domain name questions

Update!. 4/25
I called Network Solutions. It was just for the domain name. The correct amount was $69/1 year. Which seemed high.

I negotiated it to $31.98 for years total.

thank you @craigconstantine and @steveh for your help on this!

Hello!

I could some input…

I haven’t been podcasting but I purchased a domain and it’s been hosted. It’s about to renew for about $ 169/200 on Network solutions.

I don’t want to pay that.

I also don’t feel ready to give up my domain.

What are your thoughts?

What is the domain name / link to your current web site?

How would you describe the current purpose of your web site?

Are you using email with addresses in your domain name?

The domain is: www.Geeksinthegreenroom.com
You and Steve are probably right - that I"m paying for hosting. I’ll call them and see about canceling that and pay for the domain.

I don’t have a website. I intended to do one for my podcast, Geeks in the Greenroom. It doesn’t have any purpose currently. I didn’t use any email addresses.

I purchased a domain name on Go Daddy and then transferred it to Network Solutions with the intention of building a website for “Geeks” (but didn’t do it).

I’d like to hang on to the domain name.

thanks!

Since you’re not using the domain name for anything, you only need to pay for the annual registration.

There is a base fee that’s the same regardless which registrar one uses. The fee can vary a lot for oddball domains… but a good 'ol .com is often like $15/year.

I like to use Hover.com as my registrar. But I’ve used GoDaddy, Network Solutions and some others over the years. I don’t see any reason why you should move your domain registration, to another registrar.

You should be able to pay Network Solutions only for the continued registration of the domain name.

I don’t understand what you mean by

renew for about $ 169/200

$169 per year? That’s more than I’d expect just a domain registration to cost.

As I said, at the very top: What is the domain name?

I agree. It sounds like you’re paying for hosting not just the domain.

Why not turn off the hosting But keep the domain until you’re ready to make a website.
