Bringing back our Campfire gatherings

I’m going to revive the PodComm campfires, and wanted to ensure everyone had the opportunity to be heard before I nail things down.

:person_raising_hand: This topic is public. Anyone can see it, even if they haven’t created their free login here.

I’ve recently been working to more clearly communicate what exactly this community is for. (This isn’t a change of focus, just clarity of communication.)

This is a space to grow. It’s a place to grow your practice, your process, and your perspective as a podcaster.

It’s not a place to grow your audience, and it’s not a place to grow your show.

PodComm is a community of independent podcast creators who are showing their work. If you’re podcasting alone, this is a place to find the others doing the same. Welcome!

We share the process behind our podcasts—not just polished episodes. That means talking about half-formed ideas, workflow experiments, technical challenges, and creative struggles. It means helping each other stay motivated, focused, and connected.

If you’re figuring things out, you’re not behind—you’re in good company.

Ask questions. Share your process. Show your work.

…from Who’s it for?

I recently created the Our Process category, which is only visible to our Supporting members.

I’m going to bring our Campfires back, just for our Supporting members. That means, yes, attending them is behind the paywall. I think that makes sense with the intention of why you’d want to be become a Supporting member.

I’m planning (and this I’d love to hear input on from our Supporting @members ) to host Campfires on Tuesday afternoons, at 3pm — not every Tuesday, but every 3rd week (or so.)

:person_raising_hand: We have a calendar you can subscribe to, so they just appear on your calendar too.

What’s a campfire

Our virtual Campfires are gatherings where you can share your ideas and passion for podcasting in a social setting.

Each Campfire has its own topic in the Campfires category.

At a Campfire you can get reenergized, have a laugh, share a story, noodle a problem in a breakout room, or just bask in the glow of some camaraderie.

I’ll be recording them only so I can transcribe them and write up takeaways including useful things from the chat. So you won’t be able to fully rewatch them, but on the other hand, if you miss it, you can still get the best bits.

So…

Thoughts?

Hey, Craig, I think this is great. We kind of dumped the Idea Club (nee Book Club) and Campfires at the same time. So it feels a little bereft. I like @steveh’s first Monday get-togethers. From a work perspective, I’m just looking at my calendar and realizing for the third Tuesdays, I’d be able to make only two out of the next four, but hey, I agree business hours are in some ways easier than weekends. And Tuesdays are a whole lot better than Thursdays in my world. :joy:

Thanks!

Also, I meant every 3rd Tuesday — slightly more frequent than the 3rd-Tuesday of each month  Every-other-week felt a little too frequent for me to commit to… and just once a month felt too infrequent. Every 3rd is then . . . probably too clever

Just above I wrote the day-of-the-week wrong — I edited it to be correct.

TUESDAYs, 3pm

I’ve added the next two, to the Calendar feed — April 22 and May 13.

I’ve also re-opened the Campfires category.

I have some work yet to do to update the Site map topic and What’s inside for our Supporting members.
