The Bloomberg article was VERY interesting especially the disclosure that some who pay extraordinary fees make it all back and more, even way more. So, podcasting has many many strata. Wish I could see the long view, the significance to the medium overall. Who is the Podcast Prophet?
That’s a lot. Bloomberg has a paywall, did they give any examples of what shows charge that much money?
Thanks, @jey for this link. In my reading, podcasts are media. We’ve already been-there-done-that with media and pay-for-play. I’m glad the FTC is on it, per the Bloomberg report, but if Guestio and pay-for-play becomes the norm, then all podcasting becomes advertising.
To be fair, bloggers seem to have struck a balance. They are required to disclose affiliate links. And not all bloggers go for the affiliate model.
Hi @jensen here’s a nice summary of the article’s main points

great points @maryjlrowe and @ChristiCassidy.
One thing that strikes me is the intentionality of the podcasters who charge. I admire that they had a long-term plan and they’ve had the dedication to keep publishing to make it happen.
Good luck to them. Though I do think podcasters should declare if they are getting a slice of the action.
