A question from David Nebinski

Our good podcasting friend and coach David has a question for everyone over on his Substack…

I don’t have a login for Substack (an intentional choice) so I cannot reply there. But I thought maybe it’d be an interesting question to raise her as well as @David is also here occasionally.

I have changed the name of a podcast. The Movers Mindset show had a very different name in the beginning. For me, I realized I was always spending time explaining the meaning of the name— and I realized I wanted to spend that time explaining the show itself rather than the odd name I had.

So I think that’s one reason to change a name: When the name just doesn’t fit.

When people ask me this, I direct them first to Eric Nuzum’s classic question: Can you describe your show in 12 words? …10 words?

Our show titles don’t have be our one (or 2 or 3 even) word answer to that question. But I think they have to at least not detract from describing our show.

What do you think?

We are really opinionated on this as evidenced by this podcast episode Rebranding Podcast: Is Changing Your Show Name A Wise Choice? and others we have on the subject. Change the name if it no longer working for you! Then our best advice for naming it is - get your own name out of the title and make it about your audience and what they need from you most. 3-5 words maximum and activating. Make you audince click to check it out.

Glad you reminded us of the point about getting one’s own name out… I’d forgotten to mention that, after you talked about it recently in the Idea Club meeting…
