Podcasting and RSS

There’s been some discussion of hosting options, for example:

But I don’t really know a good option for how to do it on the cheap.

You don’t “use RSS for your podcasts that are on Captivate”. RSS is the “how”. Wherever you host your show, that creates the RSS feed to make it a podcast show. Captivate is generating an RSS feed for your show now. If you want to move to another host, the new host will generate the RSS feed for your show.

To stop paying (or change the cost) you have to change hosts. There are some free options (eg, Substack is mentioned in the above Topic I linked) but they are always harder to use and require more technical skills.

For example, I don’t pay hosting fees for any of my podcasts. I self-host them using Wordpress sites. But I do pay significant fees (much more than normal podcast hosting costs) to run all the infrastructure I need to operate the rest of my “empire”. It just happens that once I do all of that, it’s little extra work for me to also host my own podcasts.

All of that being said…

I’ve sometimes wondered about building a podcast host that would be a benefit included to the paying @members here. It would be really cool if you (any member) could host your show somewhere, and pay a single fee that supports this community and keeps your show playable.

Anyone else that would want free podcast show hosting rolled into their Podcaster Community membership? @steveh I wonder if this would be a good fit for people coming out of your courses too?
