I’ve been working to reimagine the Open + Curious podcast, and one thing I’ve always wanted to do was to get some professionally recorded sounds. I’ve been working with a musician on Fiverr.com…
It’s been surprising and energizing to be working with someone who has an entirely different skillset than I. We’ve been very slowly (because neither of us is in a hurry) exchanging messages. He sends audio clips and I’m saying things like, “can you make it sound more like a question?”
Granted, this opens up a new can of worms. For example, I now feel I really should send this show out for professional editing. (More expense; boo.) Anyway.
I’ve long know about (and yakked about) how great it is if you can find someone to collaborate with on your show on an ongoing basis. But I’m really surprised at how just having this one stretch of interaction has energized me.
Maybe you can try getting someone to help you with a clear ask like: “I want to reimagine my show’s opening. Would you be willing to work with me over a few weeks on that?” Even if you’re not paying, there’s something powerful about a clear ask, and a timeframe.
