What’s a campfire?

Campfires are our twice-monthly (usually, 2nd Saturdays and last Sundays) gatherings where you can share your ideas and passion for podcasting in a social setting.

About the Campfires category has the details— including how to make them appear automatically on your calendar.

@members, it was just @Hoagie and I today, so I didn’t record.

But we covered a load of really interesting things—I should have recorded. Thought I’d do a brain dump of some of the stuff people might be interested in:

  • I’m preparing to resume recording/publishing Podtalk, and I’m considering adding a signature question on the end, asking for 5 things worth knowing about. (People would be able to prepare their answers.) It could be any 5 things: Books, podcasting gear, podcasts, random youtube videos, people of interest, online services, etc.

  • That “5 things…” idea comes from a great weekly email called Dense Discovery which has that at the bottom of each weekly issue.

  • We also talked about a ton of books: I mentioned Sandra Newman’s Julia (a retelling of Orwell’s 1984 from the character Julia’s point of view) and Jonathan Cott’s On the Sea of Memory (I’ve talked about Cott before, in the context of his book Listening) where he describes his journey through losing a large number of years of his memory.

  • I think it was @steveh who first mentioned here on PodComm https://harkaudio.com , and it came up today too. It’s curated sets of 5 episodes on various topics. Really good project. I’m actually not using it because I’m terrified of finding even more podcasts that I cannot listen to. :slight_smile:

  • I was also talking more about https://podmatch.com I already have a huge list of people to be on the Podtalk show, but I’m seeing several really good guest possibilities in there. I’m looking forward to casting a wider net for guests.

No pressure Mark, but anything else jump out at you that we should mention?

So sorry I missed it. We got home late from the market.
