Some podcast guests are paying upwards of $50,000 to be interviewed on a show, according to a new Bloomberg [report](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-08-03/podcast-guests-can-pay-big-money-to-be-on-top-shows).

> Interesting. Sounds like she’s picked an arbitrary (or just plain out-of-date number) to cover her costs. This is awesome for your client @ChristiCassidy with the caveat that it does actually appear too good to be true but as long as you are not surrendering IP then it seems worth a punt?

The Bloomberg article was VERY interesting 🤪 especially the disclosure that some who pay extraordinary fees make it all back and more, even way more. So, podcasting has many many strata. Wish I could see the long view, the significance to the medium overall. Who is the Podcast Prophet?

That’s a lot. Bloomberg has a paywall, did they give any examples of what shows charge that much money?

Thanks, @jey for this link. In my reading, podcasts are media. We’ve already been-there-done-that with media and pay-for-play. I’m glad the FTC is on it, per the Bloomberg report, but if Guestio and pay-for-play becomes the norm, then all podcasting becomes advertising.

To be fair, bloggers seem to have struck a balance. They are required to disclose affiliate links. And not all bloggers go for the affiliate model.

Hi @jensen here’s a nice summary of the article’s main points

great points @maryjlrowe and @ChristiCassidy.

One thing that strikes me is the intentionality of the podcasters who charge. I admire that they had a long-term plan and they’ve had the dedication to keep publishing to make it happen.

Good luck to them. Though I do think podcasters should declare if they are getting a slice of the action.
